Foldrule
Electrical

Electrician job management software for panels, service calls and remodels.

A remodel is four visits and two months. A service call is forty minutes. Foldrule holds both on the same job record, with the photos, the lines and the invoice attached where you can find them a year later.

Electrical work runs on more than one visit.

A panel upgrade means a quote, a permit, a shutoff scheduled with the utility, a day of work and an inspector who comes when he comes. A remodel means rough in, then weeks of drywall and paint, then trim. Between those you are running troubleshooting calls where the hour is the product.

Foldrule does not pull permits and does not talk to your inspector. What it does is keep the visits, the photos, the lines and the money straight around all of that, so the second visit knows what the first one found.

  • Rough in and trim, weeks apart, on one job
  • Panel and service upgrades scheduled around the utility
  • Inspection days that move without warning
  • Hourly troubleshooting next to fixed price installs

The inspection sits in the middle of the job

Count the trips on a basement finish. One to walk it and price it. One for rough in, with boxes set, cable pulled and nail plates wherever a run passes within an inch and a quarter of the stud face. Then the rough inspection, and another trip if the inspector finds a cable that is not stapled within twelve inches of a box. Then five weeks of nothing while the drywall and paint crews work. Then trim, and the final inspection after that.

The electrician who comes back for trim is often not the one who pulled the wire.

Commercial clients stretch it further. A client with two buildings wants a lighting retrofit on the second floor of one and a new subpanel for a tenant fit out in the other. Each building has its own facilities contact and its own rules about when the power can go off, which is usually early on a Saturday. You pull the permit for each and you meet the inspector at each, and the two jobs run on separate calendars for the same client.

Electrician job management software has to keep that shape. In Foldrule a job holds its visits in order however far apart they fall, and each visit holds what the member saw. Photos of the open wall at rough in, taken so someone can find a cable run later without cutting drywall, are on the job when trim starts. The client with two buildings is one client with two properties, each carrying its own contacts and tax rate.

When the rough fails, the fix is one more visit on the same job.

One job, as many visits as the work takes.

Rough in on the 4th, trim on the 29th, a return trip because the tile guy moved a box. All of it sits on one job with the lines, the checklist and the photos in one place, so whoever goes back is reading what the last person actually did.

  • Visits scheduled weeks apart on the same job
  • Checklists so nothing on the trim list gets skipped
  • Assign a visit to the member who is going
  • Job history a year later, in one place

Photograph every panel before you close it.

A picture of the old federal panel, the burnt lug and the finished terminations ends most arguments before they start. Photos live on the visit, with per photo control over what the customer sees and what stays internal.

  • Before and after on the panel, the meter and the terminations
  • Per photo control of what the client can open
  • Captured offline in a crawlspace or an unfinished basement
  • Kept with the job, not on somebody’s camera roll

Quote the upgrade, take the deposit, order the gear.

Panels, gear and long lead items should not be bought with your own money. Build the quote from your price book, offer the service upgrade at two amperages as options, and set a deposit the customer pays in the portal when they approve and sign.

  • Options on one quote instead of three separate quotes
  • Deposit paid in the portal before you order
  • Approved quote becomes the job with lines copied over
  • Catalog edits never change a quote you already sent

Bill a remodel in stages, bill a service call the same hour.

Progress invoices carry a long job while it runs, and a service call gets invoiced from the driveway. Either way the customer pays by card or bank transfer through your own Stripe account, and cash or a check gets recorded against the same balance.

  • Deposit, progress and final invoices on one job
  • Sales tax from the property, not from your office
  • Card, bank transfer, cash, check, Zelle, Venmo and e-Transfer
  • Reminders go out on their own when an invoice ages

An electrical price book on the first day.

Your account starts with a price list written for electrical work: service calls and diagnostics, receptacle and switch work, dedicated circuits, fixture and fan installs, panel and service upgrades by amperage, EV charger installs, generator hookups. Prices are yours to edit from the start.

Does Foldrule handle permits and inspections?

No. Foldrule does not file permits and does not schedule inspectors. You can put the inspection on the job as a visit with a note, but the filing stays with you and your jurisdiction.

Can rough in and trim live on the same job?

Yes. A job holds as many visits as the work needs, weeks apart if that is how it falls, with the lines, checklists and photos shared across all of them.

Can I quote a 200 amp and a 400 amp service on one quote?

Yes. Put them on the same quote as options. The customer picks one in the portal and signs, and only that option carries into the job.

Can I charge hourly on one job and flat rate on another?

You can. Lines take a quantity and a rate, so an hourly troubleshooting call and a fixed price fixture install work the same way in the catalog.

Can a worker see only the visits assigned to them?

Yes. Members are owners, admins or workers, and a worker sees the work they are assigned. Pricing and money are visible only where you allow it.

Does it work on both sides of the border?

It does. Foldrule covers the United States and Canada, with US sales tax and Canadian GST, HST, PST and QST set on the property, plus Interac e-Transfer as a payment rail.
